Our workshops

Bright Sparks Electricity

Electricity fun!! Looking at static electricity and developing problem solving skills by building circuits.

Experiments include:

  • A hair raising time using the Van der Graaff generator
  • Using static electricity
  • Testing conductivity
  • Building circuit for fairground games, electric buggies and burglar alarms
  • Making lemon batteries
  • Designing squishy circuit models
  • Making LED torches
  • Designing and making LED UFOs

Messy Materials

Fun (and messy) workshops that investigate all things chemical!

Experiments include:

  • Testing properties - magnetism, conductivity, pH, density, solubility
  • Exploding rockets
  • Making polymer slime
  • Investigating ooblek
  • Exploring physical changes
  • Making chemical changes
  • Lava lamp investigations
  • Making stripey water

Tricks of the Light

Investigating how light travels, how we see things and just how easy it is to trick our brains!

Experiments include:

  • Using prisms and diffraction glasses to split light up.
  • Making LED torches to show how the colours of light mix
  • Using UV paint to show the power of the sun
  • Making laser mazes
  • Making spinning optical illusions

Brilliant Bodies

We take a look at how fantastic our bodies are at keeping us fit and healthy.

Experiments include:

  • Using UV lights and powder to show how easy it is for germs to travel and exactly how far a sneeze can travel
  • Making snot
  • Building skeletons
  • Identifying joint and animals using x-rays
  • Making poo to explore the digestive system
  • Using stethoscopes to hear our heartbeat
  • Making colour changing heart pictures
  • Heart and lung dissections

Rocks & Fossils

We'll take a trip back in time and see how rocks change over time and what fossils tell us about dinosaurs.

Experiments include:

  • Building a rock cycle
  • Soil testing
  • Investigating how temperature affects crystal size in cooling lava
  • Making fossils
  • Hatching dinosaur eggs
  • Identifying fossils

Forensic Mysteries

Using suspects and setting themed with your topic work, your class will be using scientific techniques to solve a daring crime!

Experiments include:

  • Fingerprint testing and analysis
  • Poison testing
  • Blood analysis
  • Chromatography
